At the Science of Learning Lab, we are interested in the way kids think, learn and grow. We partner with teachers, parents, and community members to understand how learning happens at school, at home and in everyday interactions.
Some of our main goals are to identify the best ways to teach kids how to think creatively about math and science, and how to foster children's habits of thinking so that they approach problem solving like experts. We study children's thinking and problem solving at home as well as at school. In addition to understanding children's learning outside of school, we developed and and are testing research-based math lessons that are meant to help kids make connections and improve their understanding of math concepts. Lastly, we are studying ways to make sure that children are not being overwhelmed or feel pressure when learning new things.
